Your Guide to Coffee Grind Sizes

Grind size is one of the biggest factors in how your coffee tastes. Too fine and it turns bitter; too coarse and it's weak and sour. Here's how to match your grind to your brewer.

Fine — Espresso

Espresso needs a fine grind, similar to table salt, to build the pressure that pulls a rich, concentrated shot. Choose the Espresso (Fine) grind for any of our coffees if you're pulling shots.

Medium-fine — AeroPress & Stovetop

For AeroPress and stovetop (Moka) pots, a medium-fine grind works best — think somewhere between table salt and sea salt. See our AeroPress guide for a full recipe.

Medium — Filter & Pour-Over

Drip machines and pour-overs like a medium grind, roughly the texture of sea salt. This is the sweet spot for showing off the clarity of a single origin.

Coarse — French Press

French press needs a coarse grind, like breadcrumbs, so the coffee doesn't turn gritty or over-extract during the long steep.
